• The body under the couch is starting to smell.
• Quit whining about the pain, it only makes it worse for everyone else.
• Stop smoking. Or start. Whichever you're not doing.

[Isamu is sitting outside the house, a cigarette in one hand. Every so often he tilts his head to the side, as though hearing a voice that only he can hear. He didn't smoke before now, and he still doesn't really care for it, but he felt a need to start today.

His journal lies open in his lap.]

I don't know what this place wants from me sometimes. No one does, I know.

Guess it's about that time again, huh?

[He snorts.]

Well it's being successful with that.

Only if you let it. At least, that's what my goat has been trying to tell me.

Which is why he's just going to be reaching down and plucking that cigarette right out of Isamu's fingers.]

[That gets a good laugh out of Isamu.]

[... and then, out of horrible, morbid curiosity (he just wants to know why people do it, okay?), he lifts the cigarette to his own lips and inhales probably a bit harder than he really should...

... and promptly starts coughing.]

[That earns him a snort from Isamu.]

Idiot.

And anyway, if you wanted one you could've just asked.

[It takes him a moment to stop coughing long enough to speak.]

And people enjoy doing that?

[He shrugs.]

It soothes the nerves or whatever. Plus it's addicting.

All the more reason not to do it.

[He knows he's already got a bit of a problem with his drinking and he is not going to be adding to that.]

But what made you decide to start? I thought you didn't like it either.

[He has no idea what you mean, bro.]

I dunno, it's kinda weird.

Like I woke up this morning and decided it would be a good idea.

...Well, nah. I knew it would be a bad idea, but I wanted to do it anyway.

If you wanted to try something that you knew would be a bad idea, I would've been happy to take you to Good Spirits instead.

[The smell of alcohol is far more tolerable. :|]

[That's sending up warning flags in his mind-- he knows quite well from personal experience that hearing voices in one's head is usually not a good sign at all.]

Yeah, I figure it's just the usual Malnosso thing.

It's a new thing, though. Kinda bothersome.

[Isamu will find Richard bending down to stare very intently into his eyes without so much as a word. Hmm, they're both still the same color, at least, and Isamu's voice doesn't sound odd like it did with Noah...]

Do I look funny now? I checked in the mirror earlier.

No, you look exactly the same.

[And he sounds almost confused by that as he settles down next to his friend.]

Is there anything different about me?

[The goat doesn't count, because goats are awesome and there is nothing weird about wanting to bring a goat home, okay.]

Not that I can see physically, no.

Same girly hair as always.

Do you think I should get it cut?

[It's... actually a serious question. He hasn't trimmed it in a while and it's starting to become obvious.]

It... might have been awhile ago. [Heck, a village this small, anyone who sticks around for longer than a year at least has a familiar face.] It's Sokka. The guy at the smithy?

[Hubert emerges from the house in a short-sleeved shirt and shorts, his casual attire that he's taken to wearing since the moment he started getting strange urges.

He picks up on the smell of smoke quickly and turns to the cause. It's a rather terrible smell.]
