[Isamu is very amused.]

Of course, I would prefer if you at least waited until we've finished breakfast to try something like that.

[Hint hint.]

Oh, so would I. Especially since I'm going through all this trouble.

[Toast and tea. So difficult.]

Not enough trouble, if you ask me. Breakfast still isn't ready yet.

[Isamu rolls his eyes and returns to the counter, picking up a plate of toast with natto for Richard and one with jam for himself.]

Here you are, your majesty.

[That was a joke. It was obviously a joke based on how he's been acting over the past few minutes, and it was hardly mean-spirited in any way. Normally he would just laugh it off, yet for some reason it somehow nags at him today.]

... "Your majesty"?

Don't you feel like a king in a house this big?

[Habits, Richard.]

I suppose I might if I hadn't grown up here. As it is, it just feels like home to me.

[Much like the castle did back in Barona... not that he can remember that now.]

[That's some deep brain tweaking, making him believe he's grown up here. Then again, maybe it just hits all the right buttons.

Isamu takes a seat.]

Guess you better get to testing my toast out.

[Unlike his normal self, however, this Richard has absolutely no issues with taking this as an incentive to pick up the piece of toast and take a large bite out of it.

And chewing...]

[Good. Maybe Isamu can get a little meat on his bones before this ends...]

...Well?

[After a moment more of chewing, Richard swallows and smiles at Isamu.]

It's as delicious as ever. Memory problems or not, you haven't lost your touch in the kitchen.

[That has Isamu smiling again.]

And you can tell from a bit of toast, can you?

I should hope I could tell when it comes to my favorite food.

That is a pretty official way of doing it.

But of course. I don't judge natto toast lightly-- you of all people should know that much by now.

Mm. I guess you're right. My cooking skills must indeed still be top notch.

[Sensing a hint of uncertainty in Isamu's reply, Richard reaches across the table to rest a hand over his friend's.]

Thank you, Isamu. I know this must be hard for you, but just know that I will do whatever I can to help you through this. I won't let anything happen to you, I promise.

[Isamu blinks at the hand. It's strange still, hearing Richard speak as if he's the one that doesn't have things sorted out. He puts on a smile, made more effective by his uncertainty, even if the reasons for it are different than the blond might think.]

...I'll be fine. I'm a tough little bastard.
