[He raises a finger for emphasis, though honestly dying might have made the situation less painful.]

You're right-- none of us did. I can't begin to express how grateful I am for that.

[But that also begs the question...]

How is your body feeling now?

Better than it has been.

[He runs a hand through mussed hair.]

I need to get up and about more. Might help.

[ledbythewind]

[He nods.]

It might, but I don't want you to push yourself. Even Cheria's healing can only do so much.

[And, frankly, it's comfortable here in the blanket nest. He's still feeling generally off enough himself that he's not sure HE wants to be up and about for too long either.]

I'm just sorry I couldn't do more to help.

Richard. You've done all you can. I wouldn't ask anything else of you.

You take too much on yourself.

[He gestures to the bottles.]

I don't want to wallow, though. I've done that before. I felt pathetic for it.

I know.

[He sighs, leaning his head back against the headboard and shutting his eyes.]

I know I shouldn't do this, but... I don't know what else to do. I just... feel so pathetic. I'm a king. I should be able to do more to help people.

Shit, man. Kings aren't perfect. No one is.

You do what you can. You're a hell of a lot better person than me, that's for sure.

[Now Richard opens his eyes to look over at Isamu and gives a shake of his head.]

You don't exactly give yourself enough credit either. You fought for me out there. That isn't something that just anyone could do, especially someone only armed with a piece of wood.

I think I just wanted to hurt things at that point. I don't know if you'd call it heroic.

[He rubs at the back of his neck.]

Heroic or not, it still took courage.

[... okay, so he's gonna take another sip of his drink, because the glass is still in his hands, and he might as well finish it off, right?]

Sometimes it's hard to believe that you're the same person I met two years ago.

[Don't say things like that. Now his face is turning pinkish.]

How's that? Am I not being enough of an arrogant twerp?

[That wasn't exactly the intended effect, but Richard will just take it as a bonus. Not because he thinks Isamu looks cute when he blushes or anything.]

No, I'd say you still have your moments. But in all seriousness, you've really grown up, and what you did on that draft proved that much.

[He smirks, but he may be a little touched.]

[He'll tease right back, in part to cover up the fact that his own cheeks may have a slight pink tinge to them now.]

[Still smiling, Richard is just going to reach out and shove Isamu over into the pile of pillows.

Because these two are incapable of being mature around each other for very long, it seems.]

[Ack! Richard is lucky Isamu's glass isn't full, as he would have just received a good splashing of its contents from that if it had been.]

I thought you just said you were feeling better. Was that a mistake?

"Feeling better" does not equal "please toss me around".

It's hardly "tossing around" if you never actually left the ground.

[Okay, it's semantics, but the point stands.]

It's whatever I say it is. And it was almost a mess, thanks.

[He holds up his glass, then finishes the rest of its measly contents before setting it on the nightstand.]

[Richard has already drained his and may be going for another, still grinning. Or at least half of another.]

Which is why you should have finished that glass sooner.

It wouldn't hurt you to loosen up a little, you know. You could do with more fun in your life.

[Says the slightly-tipsy king in pajamas, who clearly knows a great deal about good life choices. At least he seems to be in a better mood now?]
